Soooo!!! Just spotted that Royce Gracie will fight Ken Shamrock on Bellator 149 19th February. My interest is definitely piqued -but I'm wondering if these guys should be slugging it out or trying to dislocate each others limbs aged 50 and 52 respectively.
What do you guys think? Also anyone know any good sources for DLing Bellator fights? |

I don't know what to think about Gracie - Shamrock. Gracie hasn't actually had a fight in almost a decade and I saw Shamrock get Kimbo in a full choke but not be able to tap him. Hopefully they'll fight on the ground and I think that Gracie will probably catch him. Either way, I'm kind of expecting a big mess in that fight.

Have Hendricks vs Wonderboy in the UFC today. I'm thinking Hendricks beats him, but I'm very interested to see what happens if Wonderboy can land one of those crazy kicks. |

If Gracie is still at his best the weight difference shouldn't be a big deal for him considering some of the monsters he's dispatched in the past. I wouldn't be surprised if Thompson finishes Hendricks if he can avoid being taken down and smothered. There have been quite a few previously "awesome" fighters looking pretty ordinary of late. For example Eddie Alvarez made Anthony Pettis look like a lame duck in their recent fight. There's been a lot of speculation that the much tougher PED measures and the ban on IV rehydration after weigh-ins introduced by the UFC over the last year are levelling fighters abilities. I'm going to have to duck and dive to avoid hearing the results until I can get to watch my recordings in a week or so. |

mmajunkie.com February 6, 2016 With a masterful title win over a seemingly unstoppable champ, Holly Holm cleaned up at the 8th Annual World MMA Awards. Friday’s black-tie ceremony, which took place at The Venetian in Las Vegas, recognized achievements from the 2015 calendar year. Fighters Only, which organizes the annual industry awards, presented finalists in five categories, and after a month of fan voting, winners were revealed at the ceremony. Holm (10-0 MMA, 3-0 UFC) emerged victorious in multiple categories. The UFC women’s bantamweight champion, who dominated longtime titleholder Ronda Rousey (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) in this past November’s UFC 193 headliner, picked up awards for Female Fighter of the Year, Breakthrough Fighter of the Year, Knockout of the Year and Upset of the Year. Her camp, Jackson-Wink MMA, also picked up Gym of the Year honors. She wasn’t the only multiple-category winner, though. UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor (19-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC), who dethroned longtime champ Jose Aldo (25-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) this past December at UFC 194, won the Charles “Mask” Lewis Fighter of the Year award, as well as International Fighter of the Year. A tape-delayed broadcast of the ceremony airs Feb. 12 on FOX Sports 2. That sucks that you won't be able to see the fights for a week. I've been there for a few days, never for a week though, so I will avoid telling you what happen. All I will say was that the main event was worth the wait! I know they have been cracking down on some of the other things people can do like rehydration. I think someone died from cutting weight in a OneFC show a few weeks ago and they just abandoned all weight cutting altogether by making all of their fighters move up in weight, which may be a good idea, but I don't think could do that in the UFC or Bellator - just tell all of their 205ers that they're heavyweights now. I always thought that, even apart from the PEDs, in a few years you'd see of these guys that subjected themselves to crazy weight cutting procedures would end up with heart problems and stuff like that. It's one thing when they're wrestlers and literally grew up like that, but it's another when you have guys like Rick Franklin and Vitor Belfort and Jose Aldo, who don't come from that type of a background killing themselves to make a weight class. |

Anyway - just finished last weeks event. Relatively poor night of fights generally I thought with the exception of the main event. A lot of guys just seemed to be there to fill in time. But man Thompson looked fine. Made Hendricks look a bit one dimensional. It will be interesting to see who gets the next shot at the Welterweight title. |
