I have a fear that because of copyright laws, watching copyrighted movies on these websites is illegal. Very simply, is it? Do I have any way of going to jail for viewing movies online that are copyrighted and used without permission of the producer? Thank you for the info.

Hi Portland101,

Yours is a good question and I will try to answer as best I can, but I'm sure many others will also be able to contribute.

In terms of copyright, no: you are not breaking any law if you limit yourself to watching streams from tube sites or even feature films and TV shows from YouTube.

If you download those streams and then distribute them yourself, then you are potentially in danger of being sued, though the chances are extremely remote.

As far as watching porn goes, in some countries this is illegal in any form: DVDs, downloads, streaming even making a porn pencil drawing on a piece of scrap paper and keeping it in your drawer. These countries include many in the Arab peninsula, various Muslim countries, the People's Republic of China and others.

If you live in a Western nation you are OK, so rest easy and keep watching.

And I agree: If you live in the Western hemisphere and as long as you don't upload new movies or do p2p, you're pretty save.

I had the same problem when I started downloading a few years ago. I was paranoid some greedy lawyer would ruin my life. Nothing ever happened.

If you are a bad person, we all are. And nobody goes to jail for just watching a stream, not even for downloading. So calm down and enjoy.
