Want to learn how to compile...
I have lots of videos I'd like to split up into pieces that were standalone playable, and join them into linked compilations. I'm sure this is child's play to everyone here, but please help. Thanks!

It depends. If the videos you want to join have different formats, resolutions or frame rates, you need to convert them first (for example, say you got two AVIs in 16:9 format with 29.97 fps, one WMV and one MP4 file in 4:3 format with 25fps). Don't worry, sounds more complicated than it really is.
Free Video Converter Quote:
In case you don't need to convert any videos - Free tools that can cut/join video files without re-encoding are Avidemux (AVI, MP4, MPEG, MKV, FLV), VirtualDub (AVI, needs free plugins for MP4, FLV, MPEG2 and WMV), TMPEGEnc (MPEG1) and ASFTools (WMV, ASF). I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones I know. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. |

I will spend a few hours and see if I'm on the right track, if I'm not, I'll have some questions. Thank you for your kick start.

If you want to split, join or convert videos I suggest "Allok Video Joiner" its a simple tool that supports many different formats. You can import your videos in the Allok and right click on them and select Split. It shows your a window that you can enter start and end time.
Second choice is a professional software "CorelVideo Studio Pro". |
