Video Size Preference
Purely for my own interest, I'm curious to know what video resolution/size people prefer.
Me, I'll take 720 over anything else, although, if it's a show I want, I'll take what I can get. But then, I'm watching on a 50" plasma, so the difference between SD and HD is very noticeable.

Think there's a thread like this in Comp Help, Chuck. But for discussion sake, on TV and DVD rips, we'll do it here too.
For TV I prefer 720 HD or higher, but only for shows I collect. If I'm checking out a new show, or its something I'll watch again but don't want to keep, the .avi rips are fine. I'll watch those while I mod then delete'em. For Movies I try to find the best quality rips possible, though for a 2-2 1/2 hour BD rip if, its over 4GB its not worth the space - the quality does not move much between 3 and 6GB. For that size I'd rather get a DVD9 full disk DVD standard rip. Just an observation though... I wonder why posters don't start separate 720p HD threads here. I have done that in the past, but it never caught on here. If it had, we might have a HD section in TV.

it depends on what i'm watching, with stuff like the daily show, the office, big bang etc i don't mind the smaller resolutions because i tend to watch them when i'm doing something else.
i recently re-watched firefly, and watched jericho for the first time ( great show! ), and they were big 1280 * 720 resolutions, and they were perfect for that type of show where i'll just laze on the sofa and watch, i certainly noticed the increased quality i'll be watching the new game of thrones at big resolution

Resolution is less important to me than filesize in MB. Anything larger than 700 MB can be difficult to download at the slow rates for non-members at many file hosts. Particularly the hosts that survived (for now) the recent crackdown. I hate downloading multi-part archives only to find they won't extract after I tediously collect all the pieces. It is much better to download unarchived video files that I can test for playability as they download. So, I like small files that can start playing before they finish downloading. Video quality is meaningless if I can't download it. BTW thanks to all uploaders for your efforts.
I might add that the shaky camera style that is all the rage these days makes many shows hard to watch, destroying any advantage of higher resolution. Yes, we can very clearly see the camera shaking and jerking all over in high resolution, that is not an improvement over seeing a blurry representation of a shaking and jerking camera. For documentary films that have competent i.e. steady camera work, then high resolution is an improvement (Frozen Planet, etc.). |

11 years after....
My preference is 1080.
I'll take 720 or less if there is nothing else available. Yes, at higher resolutions it becomes difficult to download, but I'll try. I wait a couple of days for a big filejoker file if there is a need for it. 2160 is nice but the size they can reach is worrisome. Eventually they'll get deleted, I guess. The passing of Zippyshare is regrettable. But the worse of it all is that everybody, like lemmings, post to Keep2share and partners, FB and TEZ. The money must be good, for those who need it. I will not touch anything coming that way. I'll always appreciate the people who post, though. My two cents. |

1080P for everything, unless it's not an option.
