Swamp Thing and the majority of Alan Moores work is great. Promethea, Watchmen, From Hell are all worth reading. His 2000AD work should also be high on any comic readers to read list.
I recently read Ode to Kirihito by Osamu Tezuka. This was my first experience of Jap comics and I will warn against reading this. It's very impressive but if you're anything like me you might want to start collecting this guys work. There is just so much to buy and read and money is tight so sadly it will take along time for most of us to gather up a collection of his work. It has also inspired me to collect Manga comics like Death Note and Fullmetal Alchemist. Not sure if i'm glad this door has been opened or not. On the worst list is Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth by Chris Ware. It is an unusual book which is too small for the content. You damn near need a magnifying glass to read parts. When I read through to the end the glue on the spine crumbled to bits. I expect any book to last multiple reads let alone a single read. The story is worth a read but dont waste your coin on the paperback.

The killing joke ( 1988)
THE KILLING JOKE ( 1988)
Well, one more time The one & only ALAN MOORE with BRIAN BOLLAN in the pencils i must to say i love Alan Moore for the definitive portrait of the MADNESS of the iconic Joker..in the 1988 graphic novel THE KILLING JOKE But in the other hand I HATE HIM, because she crippled the former Batgirl Commisioner Gordon's daughter Barbara Gordon since 1988 Thanks to GOD & Dc 52 reboot she back more healthy.. than ever ¡¡ |

Not sure why Frank Miller excelled with Graphic Novels but even years ago "Death of Electra" was brilliant.

Frank Miller gets both barrels.
Best I read was Dark Knight Returns Worst I ever read was Dark Knight Strikes Again It's that and the unfinished All Star Batman & Robin which have convinced me that whatever talent was in Frank Miller has left him. And made a rustling sound as it did.

If we're talking something that's has a strict beginning, middle and end...Preacher, hands down.
But the fact for me is there are so many great graphic novels, I'd need to do a comprehensive list just to be fair.

Aren't all above (except Killing Joke) Trade Paper Back collections?
It's kinda unfair to compare collected 10+ part-serials with a single looong-form story. Me? I haven't gone for many Graphic Novels. I guess Killing Joke was the best. |
