![]() I will soon be in possession of what I am told is a "jailbroken" Amazon firestick. Theoretically it can allow me to watch pretty much any broadcast television.
I have looked at a few spots online as far as how they work, but I still don't think I have it all figured out. Anyone come across these or have any experience using this or similar products to watch tv? If this is the wrong section or not an approved subject I do apologize. |

![]() most of things are straightforward depending what you want to do.
If the firmware is to your liking and all that's lacking are applications, simple get them from forums, torrent, filehoster and and follow the installation instructions.

![]() "Broadcast television" would be incorrect. Broadcast implies OTA/cable/SAT, which is not the function of this device. The Fire Stick is a streaming device and handles streams. Not all "broadcast" channels have an associated online stream. An OEM models supports most of the popular services already, so the question is what exactly are you wanting to do that the OEM model didn't support.

This being the case, what exactly is "hacked" or "jailbroken" about this? If it just handles streams of services my computer and/or smart tv can already handle what change can be made to it to offer any advantage. I was under the impression that this would be much like the old "black boxes" available for decoding every available cable station. |

![]() i set up one of these fire sticks for a friend. the way i have seen them set up is with kodi. which you can download to any pc its just the covenience of having it stuck in the tv and not on a pc screen. as for it been jailbroken they are not like ios you can just choose to install apps from where ever you find them. and being honest about them i prefer my droidbox, the android software is easier to use than the fire sticks.

It will likely have more services than your TV, it won't touch your computer (nor will any other streaming device). The old "black boxes" to which you refer no longer exist. Those old boxes, as well as the card trick (and others) with SAT boxes have all been replaced by better security. In regards to cable service, most suppliers have switched to an all digital system which requires a cable box to decode. In regards to using a "hacked" fire stick just to use an application like Kodi, I'd rather just use a Roku (or other brand which already support the app) and not have to deal with a "hacked" device. |

![]() I have now had the firestick for a while now, and I love it.
It certainly isn't "free cable" or anything that simple, as was told to me above. I immediately understood it for what it is, an Android device that allows apps. One of those apps, Kodi, allows the addition of other add-ons that will congregate all the sources I would normally search for on my own for movies, tv shows, and live streams of broadcast television. I talk to people who had no experience with tube sites or streaming sites or torrents or any of the many ways I have gotten my media for years, and most are happy with the "jailbroken" or "hacked" stick. Good sources aren't always easy to find, especially for sports or other live events. |

![]() As I expected. And there are numerous devices which can run/access kodi.
But glad it's working for you. |
