I have been watching porn on the internet for the past 20 years - and I find that the quality has been dropping for some years now...

Its not the picture quality - its getting better, but its the level of "realness"... Its all gotten so stupid, so extreme - the girls are mostly "fake" - they look like "evil Pro's" and the guys with their big dicks look like stupid animals who wouldnt be able to speak in complete sentenses even if they tried...

I dont know if its just because I'm getting older or what, but I'm seriously thinking of quitting the scene alltogether...

Does any of you feel the same way??

I don't think you're that far from the truth. Since the advent and proliferation of porn on the internet, I do think quality has suffered. Everything has got to be rushed out there and any sort of creativity has been gone. Not that it was a. prime reason to watch but dare I say the lack of a plot (no matter how flimsy or ridiculous) has hurt. The scenarios that current porn has at this time are re-hashed or just not that creative. Some of those earlier porn actors/ actresses could actually deliver a line of dialog as well as fuck with some vigor.

So visually the quality is better but they miss stimulating the biggest sex organ we have and that's the brain.

I think any media geared to the general public are going to get dumber and dumber with time, for the simple reason that the general public itself seems to be getting dumber. This is why incredibly vapid superhero movies dominate the box office now, why popular music is ruled by bubblegum teeny-bopper cliches like Taylor Swift and talentless, tin-eared rappers like Kanye West, and why ghost-written celebrity tell-alls land atop best-seller lists. If you want to make the most money and appeal to the most people, you're better off dumbing things down and pandering to their lowest instincts.

In the case of porn, I think there's been a steady decline since about 2010. In Europe one of the worst studios, LegalPorno, bought out one of the best, DDF, and classier but smaller companies couldn't survive the rise of widespread porn piracy. Unimaginative, low-budget gonzo scenes with the crudest sort of sex on display grew more profitable and so became the norm, while more inventive studios like Daktari Lorenz's or Mario Salieri's became the exception. It also didn't help that plastic surgery, tattoos, and other body modifications came into fashion, leading girls with abundant natural beauty to ruin their looks out of an ill-conceived desire to fit in or please some of the pushier and more vocal segments of their fan base.

Still, I think there's far more media being produced now than ever before, and that means, if you know where to look, you can still find lots of great movies, music, books, and porn . . . but you'll probably have to look well beyond the mainstream to find them.

No, it's not just you... I often feel that so much porn is too mass-produced and repetitive. Some of it is more ridiculous than arousing.

Are you absolutely sure you mean 20 years? The only porn available in 1999 was either Danni's HardDrive or the various amateur sites like Wetlands, Dreamnet, &c..

There also used to be quite a large section of Yahoo groups dedicated to porn, but it was only images: no video.

As far as I can remember, the only moving image porn available consisted of tiny low resolution samples, or scenes posted in instalments (also low quality) by a few paysites: back then most users were still on 56k modems so the most realistic option to obtain porn online was to (very) slowly download pictures.

To me it seems like it was yesterday having to wait 5 minutes to download a single image...

Everything has been done, and its so hard to come up with something new.
