Should they redo the Labyrith?

I'm expecting people to be triggered by this, and the original is a classic. But what if Guillermo was at the helm?

how about creating a whole new story? why a remake? Look at how Don't Be Afraid of the Dark went wrong.

I'm not a huge fan of the original, though I suppose I like it overall, and I saw it when it was new. But I see no point to a remake, as I see no point to virtually all remakes of popular/beloved films - unless you're a shareholder in the company making it, or a member of the cast or crew who's getting a paycheck. What would it actually offer for the audience? New FX and more action, obviously. I guess that's enough in many people's minds - in fact that's all a large percentage of viewers care about, which is why we keep getting useless remakes of things like Robocop, Total Recall, etc. But guess what, these films aren't usually big hits - unless they get good reviews, offer something that's actually new, or have a huge amount of studio promotion behind them. So...Labyrinth... I just don't see it. Or The Princess Bride, which there are rumors about; an even worse choice for a remake.

Remaking films that had good kernel ideas in them, but were failures or just small cult hits, films that most people agree didn't really work - that's the kind of stuff to remake. But of course since Hollywood is all about money, not about art, we're more likely to get a remake of Back to the Future than one of, say, Cool World. Then again the whole 80s nostalgia thing seems neverending so who knows.

A sequel, maybe, but a remake, why? I can't help thinking that people who do these remakes should be ashamed of their lack of originality. It's a huge sign that says, we have no creativity.

That is how Hollywood is now and has been for at least ten years now. They aren't willing to take a chance on an original idea for fear that it wont make them several million or billion dollars. That is why they are beating us to death with remakes and reboots. Martin Scorsese is right, the days of creative film making into a piece of art are long since gone.

Regarding Labyrith, it was one of those charming family films of the mid-eighties that I wouldn't be made at if they remade it because it was just ok but that is my opinion. Honestly I always preferred the soundtrack over the movie.

Someone should take a page from Netflix, probably Netflix itself, and do a prequel a la Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. I am waiting to see Age of Resistance I would love to see a Labyrinth prequel.
