British National Health
Hi Guys,
The British National Health system has now reached the venerable age of 65 years. In this elucidating article, a good case is made for this excellent institution. I realize that there are some people who consider free health care as a communist threat, but I will hope that they will only judge the British experience for what it is: a way to keep the nation healthy. Sixty-five reasons to love the NHS From the first kidney transplant in 1960 to robotic open-heart surgery and last year's pioneering hand transplant, the NHS has come a long way in 65 years 1. The first baby born on the NHS was in Carmarthenshire, at 12.01am, 5 July 1948. Aneira Thomas was named after MP Aneurin Bevan, the founding father of the NHS.Source

I used the NHS a lot when I was younger. Fixed all my broken bones for free.

You can't argue with common sense. America's insurance system isn't just for profit, its a monopoly.

Thanks for that alexora. As a NHS employee it makes me proud to be part of an institution that has provide free healthcare for zillions of people. I'm not frontline (I'm HR) but I have daily contact with people who are.
It has come in for a fair amount of criticism in the past few years but what the fuck, it's free, no worries about insurance etc. Long may it continue ('til I'm dead then fuck it, I don't care)! |

Im split on the NHS. On one hand its saved many family members lives but on the other its an arbitrary inefficient mess.

And that's neither here nor there about a thread on the NHS. Nobody should go on political meandering about the original topic, because this thread would be closed as a result.
PS: if that happens and I'm the one closing it, don't worry, I'll let you know. |

Sweden is not the UK (obviously) but this is my story.
When I was a student at the University in town (Stockholm) at like 24 I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some football hooligans that wasn't even after me ran me over and broke my skull. I thought I had got passed them till I realised the blood wouldn't stop pouring. A few minutes later I was in an ambulance and like four hours later I was home again all stitched up in my forehead. Costed me like like 5 cinema tickets at the time. I'm happy if another unfortunate youngster, or oldster for that matter, gets the same break. I'm even willing to pay for it. I'm in Sweden and few on this forum care about what we do. |
