NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The husband of country singer Sara Evans says she filed for divorce the day after he discovered she was having an affair.

Craig Schelske did not identify the other man in court documents filed Friday in Williamson County Chancery Court.

Evans' publicist Lori Genes declined to comment.

In his answer to Evans' petition for divorce filed last week, Schelske denies Evans' allegations that he committed adultery, was verbally and emotionally abusive, drank excessively and frequently watched pornography in their home.

Schelske, who ran for Congress as a Republican from Oregon's 5th District in 2002, says he and Evans, 35, were watching pornography together when their oldest child, a 7-year-old daughter whom they believed to be asleep, entered their room unexpectedly.

FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Country singer Sara Evans and husband Craig Schelske agreed in court Thursday to divide money Schelske had removed from a joint account and to come up with a visitation schedule for their three children.

Evans dropped out of the reality TV show "Dancing with the Stars" and filed for a divorce from Schelske two weeks ago, alleging that he committed adultery, was verbally and emotionally abusive, drank excessively and frequently watched pornography in their home.

Schelske denied the allegations in court papers and said Evans filed for the divorce a day after he discovered her "intimate relationship" with another man and the two argued about it.

Both attended a hearing on their case Thursday but didn't speak in court.

Because Schelske has no separate income, Chancery Court Judge R.E. Lee Davies ordered the couple to split $274,000 the husband moved out of a joint account after Evans filed for divorce.

"I think $137,000 ought to address any immediate concerns," Davies said. "Down the road we can make adjustments."

Evans' attorney John Hollins Sr. did not object but suggested that Schelske, who ran for Congress as a Republican from Oregon's 5th District in 2002, "ought to get a job."

The couple also agreed that Schelske would look for a separate residence and try to work out a schedule for him to visit with their three children.

Evans' initial filings named the couple's former nanny, Alison Clinton, as having had an affair with Schelske. Clinton's lawyer, Ronnie Berke, said the judge ordered Clinton's name removed from court paperwork at the request of Schelske's attorney.

Evans and Schelske also agreed Thursday to attend counseling and not to talk to the news media, but the judge denied a motion to limit media coverage of the proceedings.

Evans was recently nominated for female vocalist of the year honors by the Country Music Association and is scheduled to appear on the Nov. 6 ABC-TV broadcast of the awards show.

She made her recording debut in 1997 and her 2000 album "Born to Fly" went double-platinum. Her hits include "Perfect," "Suds in the Bucket" and "Real Fine Place to Start."
