Force cable modem to get new IP?
When I turn off my cable modem and turn it back on I still have the same ip address. I've seen others talking about shutting down the cable modem, turning it back on and presto - new ip. I tried waiting 10 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours and then overnight. Still same ip address. I know I don't have a static ip because a few months ago I left town for over a week and turned everything off. When I returned I had a new ip address. My question is this - Can I somehow force my cable modem to cycle through to a new ip address?

try unpluging the unit from the wall. both power and cable. or from the unit itself. total isolation. wait 30 secs or so, then reconnect the cable and plug elec back in the wall. or................... this may be as easy as opening a dos box and typing ipconfig /all to show the ip then ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew you may or may not need the space between the / to get the dos box you go start all programs accessories and then click on the command prompt after typing renew and hitiing enter it should go to your provider and fetch a new ip or................... Sometimes you need to ask the cable company to assign you a new one.

Sometimes the service provider will have a diagnostic webpage set up for modem testing. With my service, I just go to their modem self-diagnostic page and it gives me an option to restart my connection. You might want to ask your ISP if they have such a webpage set up.

TRY... Start > Run... cmd
type: ipconfig -release and press enter. Then just take the power cable from the back of your modem and wait for about 5 minutes, then plug it back in. Then... ipconfig /all take a note of your ip..... ipconfig/release ipconfig/renew ipconfig/all Look to see if it's changed. If not then there's not much chance that you can change it. |
