You may recall a case last year involving Julie Amero, a substitute junior high school teacher in Connecticut that was arrested and threatened with a 40 year prison sentence after the computer in her classroom began to display pornographic pop-ups in front of her students. Any one with even the slightest knowledge of computers could tell you that this was completely ridiculous - especially after learning that the computer system in the school was woefully ill-equipped to handle spyware and viruses. Still, officials and the police refused to admit that they had made a mistake and pressed on with their case. Now Amero has been forced to cut a plea deal in order to avoid jail.

If that wasn't absurd enough, this plea comes despite overwhelming forensic evidence that Amero was not responsible for the pop-ups and that the school district's IT manager, detectives and prosecutors knowingly misled the court to cover their own asses. In the end, Amero will pay a $100 fine and give up her teaching credentials. Even though she feels vindicated by the ruling, I can't imagine that it makes up for the 4 years of misery she has endured. One can only hope that she will be able to turn around and sue these morons into oblivion.

Unbelievable. It says she only had to pay 100 dollars, but considering how many times the thing was delayed (like 4 times with one judge and 4 times with another) she must have blew 10,000-30,000 dollars on her lawyer(s). You have to pay the lawyer every time and courts just keep delaying. That's another story, though.

I want to know which of the parents or faculty members was the first to blow the whistle on her as if it was her fault. She even said she tried to call IT to turn it off! It's the school's fault and they made it her life hell for four solid years.

Threat of 40 years for porn popups, they're probably child molesters that don't get that much of a prison length facing them. Anyone who knows anything about many school system computers, know that what she is saying is more than plausible.

Sucks for her that she lost her teaching credentials.

they are worst criminals acts being done and they don't get 40 years. maybe 20 years max. that shows you how the system fails. always blaming sex... like sex is some sort of crime... unbelievable, i don't get it.

I could walk into work, pull out an Uzi, and gun down half my office colleagues (not that i have thought about it or anything) Then plead insanity and not get a 40 year sentence. This ranks pretty high on the stupidity level for sure.

Just another case of the Mrs. Lovejoys of the world crying "Won't someone please think about the children". If I were her, I get the sleaziest lawyer possible, and we all know there are plenty of those, to sue the school district into oblivion. That would be sweet vengence when those assholes can't even fund their school because they tried to railroad a teacher into prison, rather than admitting their mistake. Plus all the crybaby parents will have to pay more to send their damn rugrats to a different school.
