Mac Companion Alias Changed/Can't Get it Back
I use a Mac Pro; run Mavericks 10.9.5. I put an alias of "Mac Companion" icon on the Dock years ago. Just recently, the alias icon changed and when I click to access the external drive "Mac Companion" I get the Applications Folder; not the "Mac Companion." I've tried the following fixes:
1. I shut down the computer and disconnected and reconnected the "Mac Companion. - didn't fix problem. 2. I selected the alias icon and chose File > Show Original - that didn't work. 3. I selected the alias icon and pressed Command+R - that didn't work. 4. I control-clicked the alias icon and chose Show Original from the contextual menu - that didn't work. I haven't tried: Select alias icon and use the Action menu's Show Original command. I don't know where to find the "Action menu." Are there any other suggestions to give back my "Original" "Mac Companion" Alias icon? |

Try performing a simple find for mac companion. When you find the app, create a new alias and ditch the old one.

I found mac companion through Spotlight, but whenever I click to highlight mac companion icon, the mac companion opens, and there is no other icon I can find. What else should I try?

From that menu, select the Make Alias option.

Yes, that's what happens. There is a mac companion icon in the window that appears when I click on "Finder" in the Dock. Inside that folder entitled "Angel's Mac Pro" appears three icons;
1. Mac Companion 2. Macintosh HD 3. Network The above icon of both Mac Companion and Macintosh HD used to appear on the Desktop every time I tuned on the Mac and they used to always appear whenever the Mac was turned on. I put both Mac Companion and Macintosh HD icons into the above mentioned folder to save space. If you can give me instructions on how to mount the Mac Companion icon onto the Desktop; then I believe I can make an alias from it. |

Thank you very much, alexora!!
Thank you very much, alexora, for your contribution to the solution of this problem!! Here is the fix: When I went into the "Finder Preferences," I discovered that I had "unchecked" the "External disks" box a few years ago to save space on the Desktop. By "checking" the "External disks" box, an icon of the "Mac Companion" was again showing on the Desktop; I made an alias of it, placed it into the Dock; and like magic, I can again access my "Mac Companion" by clicking on the alias for it that I placed on the Dock. Problem solved.
