heard an australian DJ use the expression "subtle as a flying melon". googled to see how common it was, and got all of *2* results (one mirror of other, it appears), both from UK:

so i figured i'd widen the search and see how big "as a flying melon" itself is (i.e., for ANY adjective), only to find...*1* result!

what thu...?! so the SUBSET is bigger than the whole, basically!

i've long thought google results are screwy, but this takes the cake. why can't it at least find the second entry from the first search?!

Google recognizes it's likely a dupe and omits it. Click the link and "all" results will be shown. In this case, both links.

google relevant results have two groups,

you are locked in in your google account,
google will show you different relevant results,
as if you search google with a protected webbrowser,
like comodo dragon

no google acct. and i am doing these searches back-to-back, not spaced apart under widely varying conditions.

whether it's showing me a subset of the results or not, how is it that a further subset ends up having more items?

still makes no sense.

in a similar vein, how come "hooters china" youtube brings up clips w title cards (or preview stills, or w/e they're called), yet hooters china youtube are all pictureless links?! what governs whether YT tosses up a preview or not?

often when i google something on YT, it's like 5-6 items with said previews, and another few without them. what's the diff? what causes this?

and why, in THIS particular case, do the quotes have such a weird effect?

i take that back. it's "hooters in china" youtube vs hooters in china youtube.

without the "in", neither version has previews!

While you're talking about "Google", why do they keep putting up a small window on the left of my screen that says: "Make google your default search engine" ~ when it already is? I know they care a whole lot about MONEY and internet ads, but do they have any clue as to what they are doing?

Maybe they should change their name to: "Boobgle" or "GreedBall" ~ which
would fit them better.

not google, but has anyone experienced even screwier search results on TPB?? i look for a sitcom that just came out, it gives me 2 results, say; when i click to order by "size", however, it changes to 3!

or i get 6 results, including a couple HEVCs (which my PC can't handle). so i do the search again with "-hevc" added on. it removes the 2 offending results, but rather than offer up the remaining 4, it actually has *7*...adding 3 NEW ones!!!!

geesh. even if the numbers line up, i'm always skeptical whether the results are "complete" or no. if i search "showname s01" say, i might get 5 results, several of which show ep title as "deathmatch".

but if i drop the s01 and use the title instead -- "showname deathmatch" -- i get 4-5 totally DIFF results, only 1-2 of which overlap w the first batch!

as i mentioned in the google case, it is not unheard of to have subsets bigger than their parents! e.g. "Star Trek" 36 results while "Star Trek TNG" gives 53.

stuff ladat. what gives?
