windows 10 one drive question
So after i got windows 10 home it came with windows one drive, so far i havent opened it and i dont know what it is, im assuming it plays your files etc but i havent needed it, will anything happen if i get rid of it? uninstall it? thats what i did to most windows 10 features but im not sure if i need this for it to work, i already have an external hard drive that holds my files, so i dont need that to watch my own stuff, basicaly if i get rid of it will anything be really affected? just seems like a useless program ill never use and i dont even know what it does, when i click it it just says 'welcome to one drive, sign in'

One drive is microsoft's cloud storage service. You can store files in there and then access them from any computer. All users with a microsoft account or outlook email get 5GB free. You don't have to use it if you don't want to. Right-click on the cloud icon, go to settings and tell it not to start automatically with windows or uninstall it from control panel.

One Drive is basically Microsoft's alternative to Google Drive.
You basically just upload photos, videos, songs, docs, etc, and you can access them, from any device, with your own Microsoft's account, anytime you want. Disabling/Uninstalling it doesn't create any sort of problem to Win10 at all. If you want to disable it, just follow the guide here: Code:

What you can do, though, is disabling it permanently from Windows Services.

>>>just seems like a useless program ill never use and i dont even know what it does,
I have to say this is a very strange statement. You have a piece of software supplied with Windows 10 but you don't know what it does. But you say it is a "useless program" which you will never use. In fact OneDrive is a useful place to back up important files. If you have files you want to keep and would rather not lose then copy them in to OneDrive and they are stored on Microsoft's Servers. Hundreds of companies all round the world are starting to store their files in the "cloud" (be it with Google, Microsoft, Amazon and others), it is one of the largest growing business for companies. As it is free for you to use, and a good safe way of keeping copies of useful files, it seems strange to make the decision you will never use it. |
