Resize videos on Mac
What would be a tool to convert a high def video into a standard definition file, thereby making the file much smaller? Batch processing ("Make all vids in this folder 640x480") would be great.

No 'batch processing', but each individual video file can be resized using MPEG Streamclip, a free application.

I use handbrake too. Load the file, and then select one of the encode presets. For example if you load a 1080 file, select preset fast 480p30. Once you select the preset, click on the "Dimension Tab" which should verify the original souse dimensions, and you new output file dimensions. You can also mange cropping, black bar removal etc from here. Once ready , select file save location and click start.

Handbrake is absolutely the way to go for macOS.
