Felice Herrig comments after her victory
From MMA Junkie:
Felice Herrig turned pro nearly a decade ago. She’s fought for a host of major promotions. But as a 32-year-old, she wonders if some opportunities are now out of reach. On Sunday’s UFC Fight Night 112 main card, Herrig (13-6 MMA, 4-1 UFC) picked up her third straight victory and moved to 4-1 on MMA’s biggest stage with a unanimous-decision victory over Justine Kish (6-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC). It should have been a festive time for Herrig, but following the FS1-televised event at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla., her emotions were hard to hide, especially she spoke about what she perceives as a lack of opportunities. “Honestly, if you want to know the truth, I just feel like I’m not young and beautiful for the UFC to want to promote me,” she said after the event. “It’s sad because I’ve really worked hard to be here. It’s hard to see these people who’ve not been through what I’ve been through and just got to the UFC at the right time, and they’re now getting all these opportunities. “I’ve seen how hard I’ve worked to get here, and it just doesn’t matter because I just feel I’m not pretty enough, and I’m not getting any younger.” Herrig, who previously competed for organizations such as Bellator and Invicta FC, defeated Kailin Curran and highly regarded Alexa Grasso in her previous two bouts. She’s currently No. 13 in the official UFC rankings (and could enter the top 15 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA women’s strawweight rankings when they’re updated this week). However, in the prize-fighting business, in-cage accomplishments alone don’t always result in career advancement. “I just think that my performances are going to keep speaking volumes,” she said. “I think fans, the people and the media see and recognize I just beat two undefeated fighters, two really good undefeated fighters that were no joke. Alexa Grasso is no joke. Justine Kish is no joke. Anyone in this sport that’s not just a casual fan knows better. I don’t need a fancy trophy to tell me I’m good or to tell me what I’m made of I know.” However, she clarified that her comments aren’t completely directed at UFC officials – but more as the business itself. “I’m not trying to make this like a point finger at the UFC or Dana White or anybody,” Herrig said. “I know they have a business to run. … I’m not the only fighter who feels like this. … We put a lot out there as fighters, and I don’t know – I feel like I’ve paid my dues, and nobody can deny that. “I’m a UFC fighter, and I’ve worked my way to the top, so I would like a little more love. That’s it.” What do you guys think? I've always liked Felice, she's kinda hot, she's shown great toughness and skill and is a veteran. Do you think they're holding her down or is she in the spot she deserves? |

Yeah that Bell@tor 180 at NYC was very good but my god that Michael Chandler Vs Brent Primus...what a strange outcome. The ring doctors thought he had a broken lower leg but in reality it turned out to be something called "Food Drop"
Quote:
I can still hear Chandler screaming "Cut it off, cut the damn thing off and let me finish this" A source listed on E$PN says he knew it wasn't broken during the time the doctors where checking him out while he sat on the chair in the ring, but later said he could understand them calling the fight off because he couldn't stand on it. No word on how long it will take for him to recover from this most unusual injury.

A lot of other strange stuff over the last couple of weeks as well. The Holmes v Correia fight was perhaps one of the most boring events ever - except for the split second where Holly KOs Correia. BJ Penn back in the Octagon. AAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!! When are the UFC going to do the kind thing and cut him loose. He was great in his day but he is really so far past his prime it's not funny. Bad stoppage on the Chiesa v Lee fight. Having said that I think he probably would have gone to sleep before the bell saved him. Still I can understand how he was hugely pissed off. |

And I agree, it looked like he was bringing up his hand to tap, or he was going to be put to sleep, but as a ref you should wait for that to happen before you stop the fight. Also he had complaints about illegal elbows earlier in the fight so he's doubly pissed. |

Hope he get it, but honestly against who? If he couldn't do it against Dennis Siver. I don't know... Maybe Mizuto Hirota, Clay Guida, Alex Caceres... |

Gegard Mousasi signed with Bellator!!
Win Chris Weidman TKO (knees) Win Uriah Hall TKO (punches) Win Vitor Belfort TKO (head kick and punches) Win Thiago Santos KO (punches) Win Thales Leites Decision (unanimous) Wow. Bellator is getting beast roster. Honestly I don't know what UFC's doing. 9-3 in UFC, 4 performance bonuses. Great personality. |

I think about Bellator a little differently....I mean it seems to me that the people signing up with them from the UFC at at the tail end of their carriers. It's sorta like the old days in the NFL when players went to the Raiders when no other teams would take them.
Sure there are some young talent in Bellator but mostly older guys that the UFC is done with. JMHO of course. Ohh! and as for Justin Gaethje ..wow! he's got a ton of heart, never gives up but not really a polished technical fighter but he's got great cardio. He really reminds me of one of my favorite MMA fighters, Leonard Garcia. Now Leonard Garcia wasn't the most technical fighter but what heart. If you never saw the 3 round non-stop fighting match up he had with the Korean Zombie then look for it on the UTube because it's one of the best fights you'll ever see, just crazy how they went at it for 3 solid rounds and Leonard Garcia broke his hand in the first round and still went on fighting.

Just finished watching the TUF 25 Finale. Wow!!! what a night of fights. One of the better fight nights of the year imo. There seemed to be a lot more jiu-jitsu on display than normal, and I'm a big fan of that.
Jesse Taylor did what I though he would do - overpowering grappling and BJJ - awesome display. Was very pleased to see him take the win - the ultimate redemption story. The Gaethje v Johnson fight was staggering (in every sense of the word). No surprise to see Gaethje has been picked along with Eddie Avarez to coach TUF 26. A lot of interesting fights coming up over the next month or so - not least of all Cormier v Jones. On another note I've been watching the early UFC events. So far I've gone through UFC 1, 2 & 3. Man but MMA has come a long way. I'd forgotten how crude the early UFC fighters were (with the exception of a couple of guys like Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock). There's no doubt in my mind that the modern fighters are light years ahead in terms of skills. Also - EBI 12 is coming up on 30th July. The first all womens EBI event. Given it is a flyweight event it should be fast furious attacking BJJ at its best. Can't wait. |
