If you mean me, it varies, my last 8TB (STGY8000400) from the Amazon Global Store cost me £126.73 (including shipping and import duty) the same one sourced from Amazon UK rather than Amazon Global Store was £159.99.
As of this moment the prices are £132.28 and £172.34 respectively.

On the downside, it states 'manufacturer warranty will not apply' however, I've only ever had to return one thing to Seagate, and they didn't even ask for proof I had bought it.

It rather depends what you call a 'USB Drive'

I would consider this a USB (Desktop) drive
Code:
http://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DQBFQ2D/ref=psdc_430544031_t1_B07CQJBSQL
It's based on a 3.5 inch hard drive, with a reasonably large casing that will normally include some holes to allow cooling, and in some instances a small fan. It will normally be powered by an separate power supply.

I would consider this a USB portable drive.
Code:
 http://smile.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-Expansion-Portable-PlayStation-STEA1000400/dp/B00TKFEEAS/ref=sr_1_3?crid=19S4QD66BZ1W
It's based on a 2.5 inch hard drive, the same size as found in most laptops, and the standard size for an SSD. This allows it to have a smaller case which is normally sealed other than for the USB port you need to power it and connect it to your PC.

The smaller size will make it more 'pocketable', I rarely need to carry data with me, and when I do, it will normally fit on a USB stick.

sent for 2 toshiba drives recently
they are 2 TB capacity .... but are the size of the old videos
and you have to plug them in !

contrast that witha 2 TB drive I bought a few months ago
comparatively tiny ... 4" x3" and gets its power from the computor

They must have been selling those toshiba drives off cheap and Ive fallen for them

Good news, my supplier here in NZ now has 16TB Seagate drives available.

It seems that the hard drive manufacturers are keeping up with the porn producers.

I'm on a ten TB now, so I could jump to a 14 or 16 (skipping the 12TB)

But I need to buy 3 of them, so that I can have 2 backups!

wondering what's the biggest HDD & SSD out there?

which is...
- size should be compact and preferably durable
- USB powered (no need for AC)
- hopefully wireless accessible.

Thanks!

I would personally look out for either WD or LaCie.
Those are the only 2 HDDs makers that sell 10TB USB drives, as well as Desktop ones, for the moment.
WD has the MyBook series of USB drives, while LaCie recently put out their Professional series of 10TB drives.
But....they're still quite expensive, compared to their Desktop counterparts.
Wait, maybe, till Black Friday sales starts. Maybe you can have a pretty good deal.
But if you really need one asap, and money is a concern, personally, I would get a Desktop drive and put it in a solid metal/aluminium case.
They're putting out great external cases, these days. Not those ugly and heavy cumbersome cases that took almost half of your desk space.

Seagate has 10TB desktop and USB drives as well? The WD USB drives seem to be a bit cheaper atm though.

Once security and speed issues are properly sorted out, hard drives will only be used as startup disks, and to house applications.

These drives will most likely be SSD, not spinning disks.

All files will be held in online servers.
