First & foremost, best of luck to you, CarlJ1, and hopefully we get to see you again around these parts.
With that said: I'm always impressed by the bumps into furniture that my-girl-Kaitlyn takes in those backstage fights. She dove into tables & lamps at Tamina's hands, and into tables at Eve's hands, and now soda machines & water fountains at AJ's hands, plus that hellacious bump into the railing. I know that I'm biased towards her, but she fucking rules. Hopefully she's part of a renaissance of the women's scene instead of just the champion during a dead era. And I'd heard that they taped an Kaitlyn/AJ match at the recent NXT tapings, so had kinda presumed that they'd put them into a match at Mania. (Those same tapings also had Jericho/Bray Wyatt, and Regal/Kassius Ohno ... NXT might be must-see in the next month.) And like Alan K. said a few pages ago, I'm still totally a mark for Fandango. I hope they're slotting him against Jericho because Y2J will (i) help him to an even better debut than another wrestler could while (ii) still be a veteran willing to put him over. I really didn't watch much of Raw again - the show just never keeps my attention for long, and the reviews make it seem like it's not worth watching or is just nonsensical IMHO (e.g. - why have Justin Gabriel eat the pin in the SHIELD match, instead of the worthless Khali or the jobber Zach Ryder?!?) |

I think that is the point. If he was great at dancing and started doing John Travolta and Patrick Swayze moves then it wouldn't really fit.

Jericho is happy just getting the younger talent over with the fans. Its his way of paying back to the business that made him a huge star.
Read an interview with him just the other day and thats what he said he was doing. |

I can't guarantee this to be a regular thing, just whenever I have some spare time. I'd like to go back in time to some matches and comment on them, as well as create lasting images of them. The first in this series is an easy one to gush over.
Thoughts on The Bash 2009: Chris Jericho (c) vs. Rey Mysterio - Mask vs. Intercontinental Championship. I didn't watch SmackDown at the universally adored 2002-2003 era where Paul Heyman was head booker. So for my money, the whole 2009 year of SmackDown reigns as the peak year of said show, as well as one of my favorite periods of time as a wrestling fan. Specifically when the Draft happened, Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio moved to SmackDown. Jericho at the time was at his peak. Not necessarily in wrestling performance, he's always been consistent and awesome. I mean in character, for a time he was the most entertaining guy in wrestling. Even moreso when RAW sucked hard thanks to guest host nonsense. Jericho would bounce between both shows once he got the tag team titles, which he won at this very show, later. SmackDown's Summer of 2009 in particular was white hot. There was this thing called the SmackDown Six in 2002: Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Chavo and Eddie Guerrero, Edge, and Rey Mysterio. Those guys put on the best matches of the show, singles and tag team stuff. In 2009, that was followed up with the following: Edge, Chris Jericho, John Morrison, Rey Mysterio, CM Punk, and Jefferson Hardy. During this specific time at the PPV, Edge and Hardy's feud ended, Edge had a great TV match with Morrison. CM Punk cashed in his second Money in the Bank, and his heel turn against Hardy was starting to roll here. Mysterio and Jericho feuded over the IC title, and Rey's mask. As the video provided showed, Jericho won the IC title from Rey after unmasking him at Extreme Rules. Now onto the match itself: this has to be one of the best opening matches of all WWE history. It was easily reminiscent of Jericho and Rey's cruiserweight division matches in WCW, as the action was flashy, but heavy in substance and excitement. It also helped that the arena in Sacramento was packed, loud, and it has a unique charm. That being the building's easy to shake. The highlights were plenty, both guys brought out more from their game. Jericho's strength was accentuated, as Rey's a small guy and easy to handle. Rey pulled off more lucha based moves, showing that he knows Jericho very well and it's assured to be safe. If he tried any of this on Kane, or any bigger man, it would not work. Even though this match was the best bout on an overall below average show (Rated Y2J's formation was 2nd place), it's a good template on how to open a show. Something exciting that gets the crowd going, cook it up so the rest of the card can follow. I still don't see how 18 seconds would be a fitting opening bout, unless you planned to turn the loser into an overnight sensation, then into a megastar. Jericho tried to unmask Rey, only for it to turn out that Rey Rey had two masks on. That's a great twist and made the face winning pretty delightful. It was clear that Jericho was the more beloved guy despite it being in California. It didn't matter, but both men had their fair share of loud responses, especially based on the moves and counters they pulled. While Undertaker and Shawn Michaels were away, the guys in SmackDown came out to play. They played big time, this match was just one shining example. |

good stuff. I used to do something like this on a different forum with another guy. We would review pay per views. I'd be like the color commentator with my so called smart ass comments ( that only I tihnk are funny) and he was the serious play by play man. It was fun.

I've talked about my shit memory before, but it is the promos before it that usually remind me of the match. I also remember having company that night. I've two close mates and one of them is a casual fan that knows some shit about wrestling and the other doesn't give a fuck, he knows nothing. I was with the one that doesn't give a fuck and even he thought this was a great match. Quote:

Different web sites are saying Ken Shamrock has been in talks with WWE to make a return to wrestling. Isn't he like too old for that?
