American cartoons are NOT anime in IMHO. They are cartoons. Anime are animated shows that are geared towards all ages and many are specifically geared towards adults. Animes usually are from another media like manga or light novels.

Most american animated shows are geared towards kids with the exception of South Park, Venture Bros, Family Guy, Futurama, etc... Those I call american anime for want of a better term. They don't have the same style or feel to them that Japanese anime has and the production values are vastly inferior. Anime also has great music that appears in an OP or ED that changes throughout a season as the story evolves to show whats going on in the series.

I totally agree with you karmafan. most of american cartoons storyline are too shallow and don't have education matters so the viewers will not have something for them, just only for entertainment. on the otherside japanese anime has many history and culture matters, so the viewers can learn many things not only for entertainment.
