People often stay in abusive relationships for a variety of reasons. Unhealthy attachment, low self-esteem, hoping they can change the abuser, fear of being alone, economic security, etc.

Calling the police was a little extreme but a smart move in the big picture considering that had he not put it in the public record she could easily turn it around and put it on him at a later point which for her is now off the table.

Time for them to part ways if they haven't already considering this is old news.

Glad we didn't have to find out but we had a civilized relationship where we talked things out and rarely let things get to a point where hostility took over with an argument. Something obviously lacking in their relationship but I won't judge them not knowing all of the facts in their case.
