Same exact reason I have never paid for a membership with filehosts even in the old days when they were reliable and had very little download speed limits like Fileserve and Megaupload and Megaporn and Rapidshare.

You buy 3 months, 6 months, 1 year and boom, next week they are gone.

How will you get your money back?

I also think some of it is like Patreon, in that some people feel better by supporting something. There are plenty of bloggers, musicians, youtube creators, who receive money from Patreon donations, even though those who do not donate anything can still access the same content for free.

would you not be covered to get your money back if you used your credit card? Although that would open up a whole new minefield of getting double charged or your details or money being taken completely. Not worth the risk.

Most of these filehosts you can't even contact support when you have a problem with the download speed.

How is your credit card company going to find who to contact once the filehost goes under?

Many of them are billing the premium account to shell companies in places like China and Cyprus or some place you can't even pronounce.
