Some years back the show 20/20 (or a similar show) did a whole thing on Savanna Samson and part of it was her trying to explain to her son that she is/was a pornstar and what that meant because she didn't want him finding out from friends or whatever. He was probably around 10 at the time.

Anyone not being proactive like that is probably setting themselves up for serious trouble. If the kid finds out because peers at school start making fun of them, they're probably going to be angry and embarrassed and mad at mom for letting them hear about it that way. Even if it's not about porn, imagine other kids at school knowing a secret about your mom that you don't. That would hurt. And maybe the kid would also be mad that their mom was doing porn in the first place because it's led to this embarrassment.

But if they tell the kid themselves and "this is what I needed to do to provide for myself at the time, or to provide for you" or whatever tale they want to tell, I think most kids would probably accept it. Most kids love their parents and what 10 year old is already going to be judgemental about porn? And bullying sucks for a kid no matter what, but if you're being picked on about something your mom did that you already know about and accept, or being picked on about something that you had no clue about and now you're angry and embarrassed about it, I think the first option would seem preferable.

Anyway, a quick google suggests that Savanna Samson's son in film school at NYU, so presumably he's doing all right.

Yeah I remember the Misty Vonage son story and I thought it was 100% BS. First of all, the guy looked nothing like her, as in they were completely different ethnicities.
