Aretha and Blondie are my favs of these for sure but I felt sorry for The Carpenters

so they got my vote. I think they are underrated today, at least outside North America. I also have a special relation to them since 'Close To You' is Homer and Marge Simpson's special love song, and Sonic Youth did a great cover of 'Superstar'. |
