I have tickets for Tuesday.
I was trying to see it on Friday opening day but I couldn't get tickets with decent seats. Damn this mandatory buy in advance online and pick your seats at the time of purchase system they now have here with Cinemark and AMC. |

We slid into a showing at 8:30. Just rolled the kids out of bed, dropped daughter off at the in-laws and went. Daughter is almost 6, loves the series, but the length of the movie means she would rather make some snowflakes or something with grandma and catch the movie on dvd or something.

I honestly never understood the universal obsession with star wars, but i also haven't seen anypart of any of the movies so i know very little except for the stupid clips and fight scenes that are in commercials, i guess my question is, as someone whos not into sc-fi movies, why is star wars so well received and known? Literally the only thing i know about the original is that Harrison ford is in it, and the women who played princess lea died last year.

This is completely my opinion... What George Lucas did was take bits and pieces of the best old ways to tell stories, mashed it together with a few lazer beams, furry costumes, and a direct stab, psychologically, at what some think is the heart of the human endeavor. The movie franchise hit just when mass produced toys and globalization of brands and products were rushing towards their zenith. It all caught a whirlwind that went beyond the stories, beyond the movies on the screens, and entrenched itself right into some really thick arteries into our culture and modern day entertainment. For the most part the entity that is the Star Wars Universe has been well maintained and cultivated well into a vast tree of stories that can now be picked at, some branches great, some ok, some that should die off... |

To each their own i guess, the merchandise is what is really global, you can get from star wars phone cases to toilet paper, its insane. I'll never know what it is as an actual movie as i have no desire to ever see any of them, im just amazed at the popularity, like i watch a ton of professional baseball, and they have star wars night, like fans dress up as characters, im like, are you kidding me?

I'm kinda curious about how they're gonna handle the whole Carrie Fisher dying thing especially after they allowed Harrison Ford to opt out of movies and killed off Han just to make sure he stayed out, I'm pretty sure they planned on having her around for the movies for some fairly important stuff.

It is out of control though in my eyes and they are now pumping one out every 6 months or so and are even shooting multiple movie scenes during principal photography that they just inlay into the next one to save time and money (2 films for the price of one), smart concept but personally I stopped enjoying this series after the first one (episode 4) and the prequels did nothing for me. I do appreciate the CGI though, the story not so much. They could have made Carrie Fisher look a little less like a used dish rag though considering the tools they have available ... |

So I saw this movie today and I'll admit it was nicely done with all it's artistry and it's effects but I gotta ask WTF happened at so many points but my four main ones are down below.
1. Leia with Force Powers. You can't just spring that shit on people, I mean sure Leia's show flashes of force powers before but nothing like that. Her Force displays were always those subtle things; her extreme resistance to the probe droid, the way she just knew something was wrong with Luke. Things like that, the only times she displayed major Force powers was in the Expanded Universe and even then it was Battle Meditation which was in and of itself a subtle Force power. 2. Snoke. All that build up for Snoke, all of that major cliffhanger speculation shit and he doesn't even get a decent showing? Sure he's a torn up dude sitting in a chair but even Palpatine/Sidious, if you ignore everything he did in the prequel movies; and the books; and the comics; and the games; and the cartoons and just look at what he did in Return of the Jedi, got to put in a better showing and he too was just a torn up man sitting in a fucking chair! 3. Luke dying. Why the fuck does Luke die? Exhaustion from the illusion projection thing across the fucking galaxy? Bad health from living on that island on that planet by himself with no decent medical care or food or anything? Is it just because he's old but then again Luke isn't as old as Obi-Wan was and that mother fucker was living in the middle of the damn desert with Tuskens running around for fucks sake. So again, why the fuck does he die? ... Did he pull a Padme? Did he just forget to tell Rey that there was still good in Ben? The force illusion projection thing was cool and good for Luke, something amazingly cool for the Grand Master of the Jedi Order but after so many years of waiting for Luke to make his return and kick some ass with amazing lightsaber duels and Force technique and he does that then dies? Let down. And my final sticking point! 4. Anakin Skywalker's Lightsaber. Why does everyone seem to have a fucking hard on for this thing in the new set of movies?! It's played hot potato ever since Obi-Wan swiped it off Anakin's cooked ass on the banks of that Mustafar lava river! I get that it's an amazing thing for each side to have it, dark side dudes want it because it was there when Anakin became Vader and offed some kids while light siders want it because can represent the passing down the legacy from father to son and the rebirth of the Jedi with Luke, but it's kinda stupid that they keep making a big deal out of this thing. |
