OMG Steps backward in amazement.
Yes oron (not tried fs yet) ARE being proxyed, BUT it's the lamest proxy i've come across. All you have to do is edit your hosts file as described here http://beusergroup.co.uk/?id=468 and it works! yes, i know, proxyng by buggering your dns lookups, that's really lame ps. TOR just plain doesn't work (for me at least). you would eventually get to start a d/l but it would be slow and never complete. |

Hi guys & gals,
Last edited by Mighty Blue; 21st March 2011 at 22:08.
I'm with BT and noticed today that I can't d/l from oron as a free user - get the same message: 'You have reached the download limit: 5000 Mb'...what a bugger! Can anybody explain in layman's terms what I need to do to get round this? How do I edit my host file? Help!!! Many thanks in advance, MB ****UPDATE**** I followed the instructions from the BE Usergroup and changed the file host as described, but after adding the new details and trying to save, I get the message: 'Cannot create the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file. Make sure that the path and file names are correct'. Than a 'save as' box comes up with: File name: hosts Save as type: Type Documents (*.txt) Encoding: ANSI (this is selected but there are other options) Any help is greatly appreciated, MB |

Hi War1lockmax,
Thanks for the advice. Do you mean the properties box under 'hosts'? Because I right-clicked on hosts, clicked on properties, under the 'general' tab' I unchecked the 'Read only' box under 'Attributes'. I than followed the instructions to change the host name as per the BE usergroup, clicked save & still the same message as before: 'Cannot create the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file. Make sure that the path and file names are correct'. Where am I going wrong? Thanks again for your help, MB |

Noticed that this has become much more prevalent with Demon now. Hmmm.
Is it technically against the ISP's AUP/TOS to bypass the IWF filters? Not that I particularly care, but I would like to know so that I know the risks if I use something to get around it. |

I'm with Be .. the IWF situation comes up a lot. People recommend using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) but I'm not well read on how to set one up.
It's a farce when effectively most of the UK users are blocked from using file storage sites. A dark mind might wonder if this is a plot in the next wave of legal attacks after torrenting come under pressure. |

ORON is practically useless,at least in the UK. It appears to be blocked, and they will not reply to requests for information.
