Hi guys... wanna keep the thread on topic please? I would really prefer it if you did.


If I were an ADM for one day, I would create a section where all (other) free file hosts were allowed. The section would have a few rules; no prohibited content, 20 posts per day, and other typical rules that are forum wide, plus a few new rules that are in my head, but I won't go into them. The section would only be open to certain members for posting, but available to all for viewing.


Why do it?
I think it would generate a shit load of traffic, and there would be fierce competition to get status in that section.

I remember making a certain suggestion like that when I was modding,
except for the cash hosts so they could get the h*ll outta PATM.

Not a bad idea, but wouldn't a shitload of traffic raise similar bandwith issues such as those detailed by bill_az when he discussed searches? He says that it could spell the end of PS...

I have thought of another thing I would implement if I was an Admin: all rejected and deleted posts would be accompanied by a message to the poster from the Moderator responsible for the deletion, explaining the reasons.

Obviously if the post in question results in an infraction, then of course the offending member will know about it, but it often happens that posts simply vanish, and no explanation is automatically given. I feel that members could benefit from a quiet word when they screw up, so as to steer them in the right direction.

Some mods do this, others do not: I would make it a requirement for all.

We all should fully acquaint ourselves with The Rules, but the truth is that most people, by default, do not. Intimidating pseudo biblical messages (using archaic English terms such as Thou) in Moderators signatures do not actually help, though they do sound intimidating and impressive.

It takes time for a member to become a good member: most other forums are a crock of shit, and the new intakes should be lead by the hand by those in charge, and also by the senior members so as to realise that here we do things differently and, more importantly, better.

I am totally guessing here, but I estimate that fewer than 1% of new members actually read all the different set of rules (forum wide and section specific) of this community before making their first posts. If they fuck up, what best way to steer them in the right direction than letting them know exactly how and why.

Posts can be moved in bunches, 100's of them and really can't ask a Mod to pm everyone involved. Infractions come with a reason.

We can't have prohibited content in public viewing because that would make it not prohibited and the people who send us letters will again send us letters.

Alot of these ideas are good, some not so thought out, but most work for smaller forums. I'm not mocking anyone, it's just the way it works.

People, everyone needs to relax some, take a chill pill, take a long drag or have a drink, again this isn't directed at anyone but all of you go to your rooms.

Admin = Dad sometimes.

It's in response to the thread, if it was only about you then you would clearly know. I'm going to work so everyone play nice.

I think most mods try to PM the poster when a post is moved that is not an Infraction or a Warning.

Sometimes however its not worth the effort. If I remove a post that is a year old, I don't bother the member with a PM. And as stated above, when an entire thread is moved, one could spend an entire evening PMing everyone. Most of us have better things to do.

I do try to PM members who's links go dead on a fairly new post. Often they wish to reup it, which is good because downloading for me always comes second and I tend to miss the good stuff first time round.

I would welcome messages from any member, unranked, superposter, moderator, supermoderator and admin if any of my download links expire: I would consider it a favour as it would give me the opportunity to re-upload the scene. If I wasn't informed, I might never find out.

I have a bit of experience in post deletion Most of the time mods send me a pm. That really means a lot, because I take time to make good posts and want to know why it has been deleted. If someone purposely didn't respect several rules, or didn't tried to, I wouldn't send him a pm. But if the poster just made a mistake (that happens) then having a post deleted withoout warning is discouraging.

I think it's good to let the Mod decide whether or not it should send a PM. But it should be advised to do it when he feels it's necessary.
