That's exactly what I do
I have a C drive for programs
D drive for my "data"
And an E drive which is a copy of my D drive (in case D fails)

Then I have off site drives as well (in case of fire or theft)

I ride a hefty 80GB laptop from 2007. Luckily I hate HD and I have backup
storage devices to fill my pretty modest needs. 1GB for a 3 minute music
vid is just stupid. We would need a TV bigger than our apartment to even
remotely appreciate the benefits of seeing every pimple on Biiber.
