Brazil where very lucky, Never a penalty. Not sure how much they payed the ref. but it worked.
Although they did deserve it, just very, very fortunate. |

The games are on and the first match is decided.
Those who havent participated in the competition can still make it , you just loose one game. A little nervous looking Brazil made the Copacabana dancing |

Dodgy Referee, Much!!!
In the build up to the game, I was certain that Croatia would pull off an upset, as this is one of the worst Brazil teams during my lifetime. However, when I saw a Japanese referee leading the teams onto the pitch, I knew that Brazil would win and that the referee would play a major role in ensuring that would happen.
If it were up to me, only referees from Europe and South America would officiate World Cup matches. They have the necessary experience of refereeing big matches with big name players, so they are much less likely to be intimidated into giving dubious decisions in favour of the big team at the expense of the small team. I felt so sorry for Croatia; just check out this list of dodgy decisions made by the ref. from Japan: - FIFA have instructed the referees to clamp down on diving and simulation. Yet when Fred falls over in the box for no reason, the ref gives a penalty. To add insult to injury he gives a yellow card to Lovren, just for being the closest person to Fred at the time. - The referee also ignored FIFA's directive to stop penalty takers from stuttering during their run up. Neymar stuttered all the way through his run up when he (luckily) converted his penalty. - Julio Cesar comes for a cross, flaps at the ball, then falls on the ground allowing Croatia to equalise. The referee disallows the goal because Olic tried to head the ball when it was crossed into the box. - Croatia counter attack with Olic chasing a long pass down the left wing. Dani Alves comes across and kicks the ball into Olic's face, so the referee awards Brazil a free kick for handball. - Neymar pushes his forearm into Modric's head, and referee only gives a yellow card. But we all know that if the situation had been reversed, and Modric had thrust an arm into Neymars head, the referee wouldn't have hesitated to pull out the red card. - During another counter attack, Olic runs into the penalty area, and Dani Alves as the last man clips the back of his leg, bringing him down. Admittedly, it was an accidental contact in the box, but if the situation was reversed, not only would the ref have awarded a penalty to Brazil, he would of sent off the Croat player. I can't wait for Brazil to get knocked out (and they will); no amount of dubious refereeing will help them win the tournament. |

I agree apart from the one with the keeper, apparently Refs have been told to cut out any contact with the keeper in the 6 yard box (Which I think is stupid, as that means any time there's a cross into the box all the keeper has to do is run into an opposing player and that means it's a foul). But that's thanks to Blatter and Platini for trying to make football a no contact sport, bloody idiots.
Neymar should have had a red card, he looked straight at the guy then led with his elbow right into his face. Also it should never have been a penalty, every time there's a corner there's always more contact then that, and the Refs always warn them but never give anything (Or very rarely). There's no doubt that Brazil's best player last night was the Ref. I just really hope that it was a one off, and that it gets a lot better otherwise this world cup is going to be remembered for all the wrong reasons. |
