I was merely hinting at the fact that this vBulletin installation is ancient and a migration to XenForo is planned, which is why there won't be any major changes to the existing setup we're running. It's either impossible or just not worth it anymore.

Forum staff doesn't have access to our infrastructure, but our system admins do. They are the ones who deserve the credit for fixing the recent outage, which most likely wasn't an nginx problem by the way, as far as I can tell from the outside.

So let me see if I am understanding what you just said: your 'sysadmins' took 18 hours to restore PS after the latest outage? I could disjoin an entire server cluster from the domain at work, spin up new VM targets, and restore from backup in less than 4 hours. The only limitation would be the speed of de-compressing the backups and network bandwidth. Then again, I do this for a living for the 6th largest economy in the world I think I will share this gem with my peers.

This is expected during backups and takes significantly longer today than it used to, because of the size of the database. Immediately trying again won't achieve anything, it takes a couple of minutes. These errors are not random.

No, that's not what I said. I said that forum staff doesn't have access to our infrastructure and that there are system admins who deal with this. The rest comes from your own imagnination.

You may share whatever you like with your peers. It's going to be one of those stories with a punch line that was mostly made up because you have no information about what really happened. These stories usually work very well, because you're not limited by facts.

I usually get these at around 10 PM also (but not exclusively). I wait 5 minutes, usually that's enough time for the backup to take place. Like DarkRaven said, (paraphrasing) hammering the refresh button will do nothing for you. Patience is your friend here.

Been down for me this morning, at least an hour. Seems to be working now, though.

What's really frustrating, is that Fritchy and VEF also go down as well, so we don't have a backup platform where we can get updates about any problems.

Total downtime was somewhere between 12 and 16 hours as far as I can tell.

Edit: Way closer to 16 hours than 12 by the looks of things. Went down sometime before 22:30 EST and came back on line just after 13:30 EST it seems.

Fritchy never goes down since switching to XenForo.
Still, I'd rather put up with the down time here.
XenForo is awful!
