update I bought a brand new un-opened 8GB iPhone 3GS (locked to AT&T) for 100 USD.
I thought that unlocking it would be a walk in the park but its not. I even tried to use ultrasn0w after jailbreaking it, but the base band/firmware is new and I can't unlock it! Is there any way to downgrade the base band without breaking the phone or get an unlocked code for a reasonable price? Thanks!

For the Samsung phones (or any AMOLED phone) you're going to want to look at your apps as well and follow the advice of others with AMOLED screens from other phones.
While LCD phones have power consumption based mostly on the brightness of the screen backlight, it doesn't really matter much what color the screen is displaying. This is *not* the case with AMOLED phones - on those, black text on a white background will chew your battery up and spit chunks of it on the floor while gray/white on a dark background will work much better. For many mid- to high-end Android phones you may also want to look at battery-saving apps like JuiceDefender (especially the paid versions that support things like location-aware management) or Llama (free). These can be used to turn on/off features that also use a lot of battery such as wifi or GPS. JuiceDefender is a kind of set-and-forget with a bit of initial configuration, a big part of its savings is from turning off Data connections for X minutes, then turning on for 15-30 seconds, then turning back off - this lets you get email, etc. but won't work well if you live in IM/Twitter on your phone. JD includes some nice capabilties such as only turning Data off if it's not being used; that's hard for other apps to replicate. Llama (free) (and Tasker and Locale in the paid apps) let you do a lot of automating based on "when leaving Home, turn off Wifi, turn on GPS", but lack some of the fine details of JuiceDefender. Still, if you're not using full-time data or are comparing to the free version of JD, Llama is very much worth looking at. Consider checking on the version from the author's website - it's a little more bleeding edge and gets features faster. |

Here in London, there are many stores and street stalls that can unlock (not jailbreak) iPhones for you while you wait. Cost is usually around £10,00. It is worth investigating whether there are similar services in your location.

Good luck

I have the Galaxy S3 and am very pleased with it.
Pros: The screen is big and plays videos in great quality. The phone itself is very light and slim (The iPhone feels like a brick in comparison) Responsive touch screen. Reacts instantly and you can navigate quickly compared to older Samsung smartphones. The 8 MP camera takes great pictures and HD video. Battery life seems good, might diminish with time since the phone is only a few weeks old. I can use it for several days before I have to charge it with normal use. Cons: The screen can be hard to read in sunlight. Backside feels a bit plastic |

Yeah i got the samsung galaxy s3 three days ago i don't have that many time to explore it but i love it so far. I'm just trying to get use to it cause i use to have the htc mytouch 4g and there is such a big difference between those two but like typhoona said it's pretty hard to see the screen in the sunlight and they put a cheap ass plastic back cover.
As much as i love apple, i will not buy an iphone. |
