Still very, very slow. I think it's done, I was looking to get a new one anyway so now it makes that decision easier.

I have windows Vista, not sure how to navagate the vista system.

I have no doubt I have too many programs running, problem is I have no idea where to find them or disable them.

Also trying malwarebytes.org now, spybot helped so maybe malwarebytes will make this even better.

Turn off visual effects
If Windows is running slowly, you can speed it up by disabling some of its visual effects. It comes down to appearance versus performance. Would you rather have Windows run faster or look prettier? If your PC is fast enough, you don’t have to make this tradeoff, but if your computer is just barely powerful enough for Windows*Vista, it can be useful to scale back on the visual bells and whistles.
You can choose which visual effects to turn off, one by one, or you can let Windows choose a bunch for you. There are 20 visual effects you can control, such as the transparent glass look, the way menus open or close, and whether shadows are displayed.

To adjust all visual effects for best performance:
1. Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Performance Information and Tools.
2. Click Adjust visual effects. *If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
3. Click the Visual Effects tab, click Adjust for best performance, and then click OK. (For a less drastic option, select Let Windows choose what’s best for my computer.)

Won't solve THE problem, but will help, definitely.

I've been down this road before. Malwarebytes and spybot, Avast and others are junk. Again, goto and download Comodo.com whatever and get the security suite. It is free, updates automatically, and runs quickly unlike the other useless crap. It's caught three malware's already today.
You get these from clicking on the scene preview file hosts here.

After having to reinstall windows about four Goddamn times several years ago, I tried Comodo and it has kept me clean ever since.

It also has a good defragger. Fragmented disk could be your whole problem. It can be set to auto defrag.

Don't give up on your machine yet. I kept my old one until the damn thing wouldn't even power up any more.

I Turned off all the visual effects and that helps quite a bit, my computer screen looks like 1998 now but at least is running faster.
