I know that HD and 4K are all the rage these days, but sometimes we do have to accept that older scenes generally have a quality ceiling based on the filming technologies in use at the time. Finally someone talking sense. People don't realise how far and fast video has come in the last few years. Just 15 years ago most people were still shooting on analogue C-VHS. The switch to digital for most producers with money meant Canon XL1 which could shoot in 12:9 or 4:3 but always in 480p which is DVD standard.

Back then most screens were cathode ray so upscaling was automatic and different. The picture is created by three coloured dots flashing across the screen faster than your eye can see. Now the picture is created all at once by pixel.It's a different technology. When people try to enlarge those older scenes they end up creating a butchered blur. Best example of this is a MILF Lessons scene with Monique Fuentes. The "HQ" version is anything but. It was clearly shot analogue and whomever tried to make it bigger fucked it up.

The only way to do it "properly" is by transferring the digital scene onto 35mm film then rescanning at the highest possible resolution. That's how Danny Boyle made 28 Days Later which was shot completely on Canon XL1s.

If you have older scenes let your video player upscale and enjoy it for what it is. And lets face it. what you gain most in crystal clear 4K is the perfect sight of drug acne, herpes scars and sweat rashes all slathered in cheap makeup to try to hide the devastation.
