Being the first to buy anything new and untested is always a bad idea. You will inevitably be the "beta tester" of this product, which will have kinks and/or bugs. I've seen this a bunch. Frustratingly, people end up doing the manufacturer's job for them. Sadly, some people have found out that Tesla does not have a real autopilot - and some of these people died - they paid the ultimate price.

The guy he's based on is an absolute prick too. For those wondering, Charles Foster Kane is a fictional character in Citizen Kane and he's based on William Randolph Hearst - a great seller of lies - mostly to make himself more powerful and rich. I've never seen Citizen Kane (I did some Googling) and I agree with your assessment, Lonewolf.

Kane was a cold, ruthless strategist, but in the final analysis still a lost little boy. Musk improvises. He has a vague idea of where he wants to go and he banks on momentum and belief to get him there. But where Kane was a lost little boy, Musk is a bloated and spoiled manchild. Both mask their insecurities with bullying. That's pretty much where the similarity starts and stops.
I heard someone on a news reports say "Elon Musk gets things done". Actually he does nothing of the sort. He sits in his chair and shouts "Make it so" but it's the competent acolytes and associated companies/organisations around him that really make things happen and perpetuate his bubble. Masses bought into his bullshit early on and now can't afford to backtrack. In essence he has become too big to fail and better people involved work their asses off to make sure it doesn't happen. Eventually Musk's failure won't be too expensive to tolerate and he'll disappear up his own charging port. The chaos now reigning at Twatter is a show of what Musk is truly about. He is in hands on control and in a couple of weeks it's been decimated. The few staff remaining are demoralised and sick of his bullying. Users are now migrating to alternatives like Mastadon, which is clumsy and fragmented but may well evolve to accomodate the new influx and become less geeky and more user friendly. Social media stands and falls on the users. With them leaving and the staff taking their severance packages and running it's hard to see this working out well. The only chance of the Twatter mess having a good outcome is if Musk hands it off to a better team and lets them resolve it all. The BETA thing is something those of us old enough to remember the early days of computing learned quickly. You never buy first gen software or hardware. That is where all the bugs are and you'll do nothing but install patches and fixes till the software is obsolete. We cottoned on quickly that we were basicly paying for R&D & keeping these companies afloat while they figured things out. It was the first real example of corporate crowd funding but with none of the gratitude or honesty. You always wait for version 2.0 or 3.0 because by then all those patches and fixes are part of the redesigned product. and all the failing componenets in the original have been replaced with better more reliable ones. when you find the stable reliable version that doesn't break down or hang, you stick with it. The upgrade economy is a moron's game, and now we're in a global recession it is doomed to fail miserably. Younger generations too cool to learn from the old hats that being constantly in debt to have the latest toy will soon understand that the hard way.

BooBootheBear, that is some great writing my friend
You should put that on WIKIPEDIA as I think it is THE BEST description of Elon Musk.

One of the now former Twitter employees told BBC News:
"I didn't want to work for someone who threatened us over email multiple times daily about "only exceptional Tweeps should work here" when I was already working 60-70 hours weekly" Shutting up the offices is Musk buying himself time to get a handle on what's going on and how Twitter actually operates while he tries to figure out what to do. His problem now is that while a smart leader in new terrain spends a little time listening to those already in the field and fully grasping situation and personnel before starting to organise his fleet crews, in slamming his hand hown so hard so quickly captain Queeg has either lost or completely alienated all the best people who already know how it works and what to do if things go wrong. He's gone into the bilge of his ship, blown a hole in the bottom of the hull, then gone up on deck and fired all the crew except the deck swabs. To borrow a phrase from his exiled Admiral Donald, these are the actions of a very stable genius.

I've encountered one boss who ticks absolutely every fuckin box on the bad boss scale. He had an underling in my time there, a snitch I suppose. He ticks the servile slave boxes a treat too. Ah happy Days.

Not taking sides here (and doing so in this case can get one in trouble here, so please don't), but Charles Foster Kane (aka Elon) just closed a poll, asking the Twits if they want Donald Trump back on the site.
Yes - 51.8% No - 48.2% Whether Trump returns is another matter; I read earlier this week that he doesn't want to come back... wanting to remain on his social network, Truth Social... Just reporting the facts... |
