If I where a PS Admin, I would take it upon my self to make the best possible selections for the role of Staffers.
Done that, I would ensure the candidates receive the very best instructions on how to perform their task without the need to become bullies. I would also implement a one year probationary period for all staffers, in order to ensure thay are made of the 'right stuff'. And no: don't tell me that this system is already in place. Peace and love, etc...

I have the system you mention at VEF but we also have a "better selection" of candidates to choose from there too.

quickie related to the last 2: what does "staffers" refer to exactly? i was yelled at in the past for calling admins "mods" or vice-versa. to me (and most of the interwebz) "admin", "mod", and "op"/"board op" are interchangeable.
based on jenny's recent post, however, i take it admin here = really high up, handling board-wide issues, whereas mod = civilians elevated to similar status but just on lower/indiv boards? and now we have "staffer". is that MOD, specifically? so where does "op" fit in? TIA! ----- in the interest of this thread, i'd say those could be made a bit more consistent in the FAQs. ditto "forum" vs "board"; still unsure which is a subset of which on any given day.... |

Board vs Forum. I don't care what you call me, just don't call me late for dinner!! All jokes aside, some people want to be pompous or pedantic. As long as we can communicate, does it really matter if it's called a forum or a board? Call it whatever you want. I always thought OP meant Original Poster.

OP means "Original Poster"
Admins are always moderators, we cover assigned sections but we also have the right to intervene in another section if we need to do so. Please note, this is only in a special circumstance such as kiddie porn being posted. Then we have to get involved. We mod our sections and leave other things to section mods. I mod sections at every forum where I also Admin, but I leave the sections mods alone. So yeah, Admins are still mods too I don't know one of us in the network who is not. The big difference is Admin has the final word when it comes to an issue. There has to be someone at the top to say "this is it and no arguments" otherwise there is chaos period. Admins have their Username in Red. If an Admin says do something, do what they say. If you don't, I guarantee you will have a problem because Admins have seen most everything and they don't get promoted to that position unless they know their stuff.

"op" can mean original poster, yeah, but more often than not (esp if lowcapped) it means "(board) operator", i.e. admin/mod/staffer.
i tend to add "board" explicitly for clarity. i take it NEITHER version is in use here, tho? re: board vs forum. well, there are "board-wide rules" and "forum-wide rules" and i'll be screwing up one or the other if i get those backwards! |

Here and at every other forum, there are forum wide rules and section rules. The term board is not used at all.
