I beg to disagree: Stevie Wonder was great in the 60s, but his best decade is by far the 1970s.

okay maybe the 70's. I technically wouldn't have one of his 8 tracks except my former english knew even way back in 1993--1994 I was converted 8 tracks to cassette (later sent him the same on cd) alot of them were in poor shape hence why I say as long as the the roller on the 8 track cartridge is made of plastic , it ought to work.. Now if it's made of rubber. Rubber tends to rot. and thus you find tape in your machine. :P sometimes actually took some apart and transferred them to another housing to get some of them to work. some were just too far gone. Although if you had some gum wrap, supposedly you could replace the metal switch. never tried that though. All I did was buy an 8 track machine I could take apart and plug it in and just watch to see if the tape was going to spew it's guts. lots of editing on cd. but it worked. Think we gave a few of ours away because someone wanted to go retro and stuck a remade 8 track deck in his refurbished antique car. :P oh bother...

So Led Zepplin tops this poll so far off the chart and your wondering why it turned to 8-tracks? Hey I when I was growing up, I was listening to the Zep on 8-tracks. and CCR and several others... :P At least I'm not talking reel to reel :P oh now I am. see all your fault. Say I have some 78's. wanna have fun?? One from 1913. uh oh so it's a 100 yr old 78.. :P mostly Big Band...

So what the hell is wrong with Reel to Reel? I still have a Wollensak and a 4 track TEAC. Both work, but tape is harder to find now.

Yes, I bought them personally when they first came out.

I bought them to supplement my original Panasonic Portable Gramophone.

well just to prove I could do it, I did get what my dad said was futile a personal reel to reel recording of his from the early 60s like maybe even younger. Him and his brother sound like kids on it. Totally amazed I got anything off it.

and of course thats my brothers reel to reel. He's also got a military grade 16 mm projector (ie one that came from colemans military surprlus :P brand new but well the bulbs shot) Uncle also has a reel to reel but he says it doesn't work. He had an 8 track recorder once upon a time though..
