Security Essentials Virus Scan Downloads
I am running MS Vista OS, on a Gateway Laptop. I cannot get updates & an upgrade for Security Essentials. I have tried looking for solutions and can't find a relatively "simple" suggestion that works. (I can get most of the other updates from MS to down load.)
Anybody got any suggestions whee I don't have to gut the computer? T I A |

My understanding is that Security Essentials wasn't doing too good compared to other products, and ( I think ) they're in the process of discontinuing the product...
story here : http://howtogeek.com/173291/good...rty-antivirus/ I'm using avast free version and I have no complaints what so ever. |

What are your limitations? The two items you list, by themselves, are not the end of the world.
Use Add and Remove programs to uninstall MSE, then download and install another product. For Windows update, there is basic information here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...alling-updates Two common causes for Windows Update not working, corruption or malware. For corruption: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 For malware, run a program such as MalwareBytes from Safe Mode. And then you may end up using the method above to fix file issues. |

I ran into the same types of problems running Security Essentials and found a program called Superantiispyware and the free version is outstanding. there is also a nice little download that you can keep on a usb drive for later in case you even get hit with something that stops your spyware and virus from updating.
Once I ran it I uninstalled essentials and reloaded it and it seems to have fixed all. |

just download Revo Uninstaller (the free version) it removes the toughest programs. When uninstalling the program do a complete removal and it takes it out completely from your computer. Then as long as you are running a legit copy of Windows, go to the Microsoft webpage and Download and install a fresh new copy Microsoft Security Essentials.
