Sharing Hard Drives...

As I read some of the responses since my last post, I had an idea pop up that seemed to make a lot more sense...

What about instead of an entire hard drive, you just mailed a decent sized memory stick? That way the cost is minimal if it's lost, and although the data size certainly isn't 500GB, a 16GB stick is $15 or so and could store a decent number of scenes or movies on it.

Better still, if both parties had blu-ray recorders/players, a single layer Blu-ray holds 25GB and a double layer holds 50GB... That might be the best option. You're still gonna run into the issue of anonymity though. I don't think I'd give out my address quite so freely.

So basically everyone that has posted since my original post is admitting to not being trustworthy? I could see a small group of people, exchanging stuff. Maybe its not for everyone. I certainly wouldn't have a problem sending a hard drive to someone....its 250gig...it works fine here, why wouldn't it work when it arrived? We ship hard drives for work all the damn time....everyone is soooooo paranoid on here. None of them get inspected...why would they?

I'm really kind of surprised with all the negative responses on how it won't work rather than how it could work.

I don't think sending a usb stick, even at 16 gig is worthwhile. How many movies or scenes can you actually fit in 16 gig. At least if you copied off 250 gig of stuff, there MIGHT be something in there that you might want to see. If not, what do you have to lose? A 50 dollar hard drive? How much do you pay to sign up for ORON, or Rapidshare?

I would be willing to talk, chat, or email with individual people, develop a trust and exchange drives. I thought it might be a QUICK way to gather stuff, rather than waiting 3 days for 20 gigs due to the limit of ORON.

Send me a PM if you want to discuss further. I'm still open to the idea. I wouldn't be sending crap on the drive to fuck up your system...thats not what this is all about. Why would you do that to someone else?

I've thought of this too, but you are still limited to your connection limits. Comcast only ALLOWS 250 gig of data per month. Once you cross that limit then they send out the troops to see what you are doing.

The service providers such as ORON also have limits.

Do you still have this setup? I don't want to have to go through 300 gig of files that you have and decide then which ones I want. I want them all and then do that on my own time. :-)

Meh, I was just kidding. But its because I think this kind of stuff nonsense, anyway. And maybe just a headache... I mean, if all you want is a lot of porn collection, leaving aside good quality, good scenes, etc, just search all forums, use JDownloader with CaptchaTrader plugin, add everything (links), and you'll be ready to go. 1 month doing that you will get lots of GB or even a TB. People who doesn't have a good internet wouldn't do this "sharing HD service" because if something goes wrong maybe he would have problem to buy another HD or maybe worse if he had lots of stuff inside the HD that took months to collect, so, IMO who do it, need to be desperate. (I'm talking about sharing with strangers, I would MAYBE share with a friend only if I could monitor everything)

I'v shared my HDDs during my college and univeristy days with friends. But I wouldn't do by post as there is always a chance of the drive getting damaged during transit.

I don't think you're looking at the big picture here. It's a recipe for disaster. You may find some people willing to do it, and that's great, but a myriad of things can go wrong in the process. First off, hard drives aren't cheap, I don't care what you think. If I lost a 60 dollar hard drive (250 GB as you say) and the time and money of shipping it, that is a bit much. Then just to have the person come back and say "Thanks, but your collection is shit, I already have 90% of what's on here"... I'd be pissed. Then you'd have to back it up because the chances you'd get it back are nil. Not sure how you think people can be trusted to return such an item.

Then you also run the risk of sending it to someone who lives in a location where viewing porn is illegal or the person is under-age. What if that individual is part of a sting? Or if the under-age parents find the hard drive in the mail first and inspect it? You've sent porn to a minor! Great! What if you send this copyright data to a LEO and he turns you in? You may be able to download it and keep it for yourself from a website, but giving it to others is a crime. There is a risk of prison time for sending crap like this through the mail. Might be small, but not worth the risk.

Then provided you've sent it to someone legit and they view your collection, what are the chances it's gonna be something they really want? I mean I'm picky myself. There are hundreds of scenes I won't even touch because I know they aren't my cup of tea. DPs, rough shit, gaping, and the list goes on. I'll delete a scene that is otherwise good, but if the guy spreads her asshole wide open and they're gaping - gone! That is not sexy.

You would need to know what the person has and request it rather than just send shit out on blind faith. It's still questionable for those reasons I mentioned and others listed above.

What's the point of sharing 16GB worth of porn? I can download that amount in just a few days, maybe less. I think most people with a broadband connection can do likewise if they leave their computer running 24/7. Your idea just seems to be a lot of risk for so little benefit.
