"Tales of Times Square" by Josh Alan Freeman is a very good read about the East Coast porn scene in the 1970s. I've also heard the Annie Sprinkle bio is a pretty good read.
There are also some good short bios and retrospectives at the Alpha Blue Archives website. I especially like the one on Avon Films.

there is a documentary either on this site or VEF called "Fallen Angels" which follows several women into the porn business. it was shot in the early 80's. One of the girls is Kristarra Barrington.
