I don't fully understand interlaced videos yet, but it is something to do with frames per second and older videos. Some of the stuff from earlier (before 2010 give or take) has the videos in two different layers or something, so some sofware does not process that very well. Deinterlacing puts them on the same plan or something. There are several videos on Youtube explaining it.
