Aside from high resolution, is something else happening? I've always preferred skinnier women, smaller boobs, less makeup, so that is obviously a specific preference, but something seems different about how porn is shot recently. Girls seem to appear curvier than they actually are, and/or something is weird about the makeup used IMO. Often I'll think a girl I've seen in porns isn't my type (curvier than I like), and then I'll see her in normal photos outside of a video and she's actually quite skinny and very much my type.

In contrast, a lot of women in amateur videos are curvier than many of the women I see in professional porns these days, but I find those women to be generally quite attractive even if they are a bit thicker than I like.

Is it due to some type of camera lens being used? Or something like that? The last professional porn I remember really liking was X-art and all that when it first started. It really started to shift for me when I noticed studios that were similar in terms of aesthetic, but something was very different in how the women appeared. For example, 'Tushy' videos can make women feel unattractive to me, not sure why.

Any thoughts? I've been dying to know if there's some weird detail that's changed.

Thank you! Because of your post I went down a bit of rabbit hole, and it seems like wide angle is used all the time nowadays (to make boobs/dick look bigger, etc). I do think this might be what is turning me off. I was also thinking about X-art back in the day, and while they may have been using wide angle, they had a lot of non-closeup shots which I think is the opposite of most porn I see now.

I wish there was a category for non wide angle porn lol.

Is not only question of wide angel or portrait focal length but also of camera position. Shot a standing person at different heights, e.g. at eye level, breast, belly button or from the bottom and you will get very different results. There are much ways to produce a specific look. In terms of professional shooting technique there's no big difference between main stream and porn.

My guess is that a wide-angle lens is used because it (probably) suits the widescreen displays we're all using these days. I could be wrong though.

I don't mind either really. But then again I'm apparently one of the few people who doesn't mind stretching 4:3 to 16:9. Of course, I'd prefer it to be native widescreen when possible. But if not I'd rather stretch than have half the screen basically taken up by nothing (black bars on the sides).
