I take your point about the distraction. Perhaps that's due to a poorly composed menage. As a male I find the idea of engaging with lesbian lovemaking incredibly arousing, more so when one is invited to participate. So, I think there has to be some kind of storyline for it to become a believable scenario and for the male partner (and the viewer) to want and accept some delayed gratification.
I also think it needs to be very well scripted with continuous action and good camerwork covering all the intimacies for it to be erotically charged. When coitus does begin it needs to be sustained with a seamless switching between the women while they too maintain their attention upon each other (especially cunningly).
