youtube "subscribers"

this highly rated web series consists of 8 eps of about 5-8 mins apiece:

and yet, on my end, it displays as 8 "private videos" (plus a whole lot of BTS quickies).

i notice that the ID has several hundred "subscribers". are these like FB groups where u have to join first to get the videos to unlock?

i made a youtube ID years back but i never use it. don't really understand the concept, frankly.

is it, in fact, key to seeing the 8 vids in question here?

I subscribe to a variety of YouTube channels.

As far as I'm aware of, such subscriptions do not necessarily grant access to "hidden material", though videos can be restricted to members who have been age verified by YouTube.

The main reasons to subscribe, is to help out the channel, and to be notified of any new uploads to it.

Some people upload videos to YouTube that do not come up in searches, and are only available to people who have received separately an invitation to the link.
This is common for things like weddings, hi school graduations, and other personal content that the uploader wants only friends and family to access: in this case he will email them a link to the video.

No: private videos will not show up in public playlists.

Perhaps the upload failed (there can be many reasons for this), but a link to it is still displayed in the playlist.

When attempting to view them, are you logged into your YouTube account?

I believe it's a case of you were too late. They definitely were available from having a look but I reckon they made them private to try and sell the show rather than have them for free on YT.

You could try Faceborg, who knows, maybe they've paid for it to be exclusive or something.

i rly don't understand the economics of web series. the ones that have gone on to real TV shows (broad city, insecure) usually encourage ppl to watch their earlier versions. what's in it for them to take the YTs down, and what's in it for FB to tell them to?!

anyway, i've now seen them all (only like 40 mins**, total). that is a WEIRD show -- about a "race blind" casting agency which supplies ill-fitting actors for "diversity hire" spots. like, production says we need a tough-guy bouncer, they send over the petite asian gal; production says they need a ballerina, they send over the burly black guy; production says they need baby triplets, they send over 3 fully grown adults...of different races.

not particularly funny; just WEIRD!

** how does one view total length of a bunch of clips? i used to think it was so easy; just highlight them and total appeared either down in the status bar or in right click>>properties or somewhere -- but now, try as i may, i can't figure out how i used to do that! even putting them all into a sequenced playlist, i don't see a "total" in there anywhere.
