I've encountered this problem. It's frustrating but it does check whatever it's checking eventually, usually after a page refresh. Haven't really figured it out. Used to be a lot simpler though and it's only started since they changed to using hcaptcha which is supposed to be a more easier alternative to re-captcha I guess but it still sucks.
