Hi Everyone.
Can anyone recommend a good FREE dvd/video file ripper. Like ive got a dvd of 2hrs long and I only want 1hr in the middle, and save it as wmv/mpeg/ect.
and the same with a video which might be wmv/mpeg/ect.
All I want to do is save the bit in the middle!!

DVDs and Videos are 2 different file formats and therefore you need different tools to work on them. They're both compressed versions of the originals, but different structures to begin with.

1. You need a DVD ripper (such as DVD Decrypter) and a solution to encode it to a single video file (such as AutoGK). Then you can proceed to step 2 which is the same principle for simple video (divx/xvid encoded) files.

2. Simply install VirtualDub which is very good for the majority of video editing tasks.

3. Stay away from mpeg/wmv cause you need different tools, not that speedy in compression and most important you'll have compatibility problems with stand alone players.

Thanks for your reply. I have virtualdubmod allready, not installed as its a zip/rar file. But I can never get it to do what I want it to do!!
I found one on download.com which had a start marker and a stop marker which I thought Great!!! But when it had finished you could put it anywhere you want but it was only in 1 file type. Cant remember what it was now,but it wasn't avi or wmv or any other normal playable file type, and the icon for the file had that "Dont know what this is" picture.
Guess ille just keep looking, Many thanks anyway.

If the file is Mpeg2/VOB (DVD Video)
Simply get a copy of Videoredoplus
You can then edit out the part you want and transcode it to Mpeg2 (keeping the quality at its best)
It also saves in seconds
