I have already replied in this thread, just want to add something
that I have taken up again recently. Bird watching. I have been
fascinated by them since I was a young kid. I'm pretty good at it
but I was busy doing other things for a long time.

A European Goldfinch was just outside the window earlier today.
(Steglits in Swedish).

Where's the fine line between hobby, compulsion and addiction?

I read a lot. Not the book worm type, but I have my spells where I'm reading 3 books at a time, but it's getting sporadic. It's just reading: from sports recaps, to in-depth analysis, long-reads, human interest, that kind of stuff. Or a good academic/ filmschool analysis of (classic) film art, think Bordwell or the psycho-analytical school of Lacan & Zizek. Just anything that gets into the depth of the subject.
Obviously I watch film too.

Might stumble on a subject that tickles my curiosity and then I just see what I can find to broaden the story. For instance, an article about the singer of The Mama's & The Papa's (which I only knew from their hit songs and not for their group dynamics and history) ended up with the Black Dahlia murders.

Then there's the doodling, sketching, drawing and painting progression which when I have the time and resources, I make it up to painting, but regresses to just doodling because of the time constraints.

No reason to feel bored actually.
