Hello everyone,

I am trying to add text to various jpeg images that I have - and have been using Microsoft Digital Image Editor - however when I insert text in an arc or circle (see image) in skews the letters, almost making them illegible.

Can someone suggest a better software for this?

Try using the free online app Pixlr Editor: it's very similar to Photoshop.

I would suggest using the free Adobe CS2 program for all of your graphics editing needs.

Photoscape and IrfanView for basic needs.

Paint.Net and GIMP for more advanced needs.

I use FastStone Image Viewer from FileHippo dot com. It's freeware and easy to use.

+1 for Photoshop (Gimp if you prefer a GNU alternative)

The problem with jpegs is that they are a very 'lossy' format so whenever you edit and save they degrade. If you are able to it would be worth getting some software where you can 'place' your image then carry out the text additions. I use adobe illustrator if I need to do this. You might be able to pick up an older version from ebay.

I would suggest GIMP, I used it a little way back, it isn't too simple, its kinda like photoshop but when you decide to leave gimp for photoshop it can be frustrating since they are similar but also different at the same time IMO. So go for GIMP if you arent planing to use photoshop, also I think if its for something really simple you should go with online tools for image editing, just make sure they wont leave their watermark on your images

I've heard good things about GIMP as a mid-range editor from a competent guy, but *I* haven't used it.
I'm satisfied with Paint.net. You can work in multiple layers & then collapse them for the final JPG (or PNG, or__). I like that you can adjust what the strength/ quality of JPGs are.
Paint.NET is free but the site has many crap-ware adds, so be CAREFUL what you click.
My only peeve w/ Paint is that JPGs can only be saved as 24-bit, so you're stuck with BIG files.
I used LView long ago, and it offered VERY precise color depth mgmt. But its $80+.
