I downloaded a movie from the mule that I had been wanting to see for a while. When I open it with the vlc player, the player opens but with two pop-up screens. The first window the player it self, does not show the movie but the two pop-ups have the movie but no controls.

The the original player has the controls and will control the movie in thoes pop-ups. The pop-ups say" VLC (hardwear YUV DirectX output" on top and last it shows a time of 2:00:09 but it should be about an hour 47.

It does work in windows media player but the time slide and FF Rev do not work.

Any ideas to fix this?

Sounds like it might be a file type or codec problem. Do you know what kind of file it is- ie- mpeg, avi, mov, etc? VLC should play them all, but you might also be missing a codec. If that doesn't work, I would try removing VLC and downloading it again and then reinstalling it. If that doesn't work, try opening it with another program, like RealPlayer or Quicktime. As far as the thing with it not sliding forward to progress through the movie- there are some types of files that will do that. I have a few that are 10 or soon minutes long, and I hate watching them, because I have to spend ten minutes to do it, rather than just watching my favorite part. Anyway, try redownloading it or searching for codecs and let us know how that works out.

It is a windows media audio/video file. I tried converting it to .avi with winavivideoconverter and it cuts the movie off at the end (at the 1:47 mark) but it is not the whole movie. There is a second copy on the mule but that does the same.

I am thinking it is a problem with the time line in this movie since I have many and this is a rare problem. I really have not had code c problems before but I recently installed the CCCP code c pack from this site.

I've had a few movies that VLC won't play, so I reverted to WMP and the movie played fine. If WMP has problems, the K-lite Codec Package might solve your problem - You may already know about it, but here goes:

The K-lite OEM home page, with downloads, for this great free codec package which is a widely used source for codecs:

If you have any problems with running vids after installing the K-Lite codecs (which you shouldn't), this software also installs a program called, GSpot Codec Information Appliance (currrently version 2.70a) (found off your program menu after install). Run this program against the video file you're having trouble with and it will tell you what codec you're missing or if the file is possibly bad itself. (GSpot is considered, "Must have software" by many)
