1. You do pull them that early because the game is essentially over
and you don't want your starters hurt in some meaningless action,
and it gives them time to decide who's going to go up on the podium,
let's them pick up the hats and t-shirts, & who's going to speak for the team..etc,
and it lets the backups get some playing time in the biggest game of the year.
If the score was closer, fuck that and play them until the end,
but clearly the game was a blowout, so why risk the injuries..?
