Registry cleaners and anti mailware
 

I know multiple fire walls and anti virus is a big don't do. Wondering reg cleaner and mailware is it bad to run multiple applications of these?

Registry cleaners & tune up utilities(that have registry cleaning included)are more trouble than their worth

a registry cleaner is - if at all - a tool reserved for the experienced user. The inexperienced may be assured that since the introduction of Windows XP, registry cleaning is no longer a crucial issue for the stability, security and performance of your system. Don't mess around with it!

Anti-malware software depends on which your talking about
If just scanning & removing run as many as you like
They come in so many different forms from anti-rootkits,anti-trojan
and just general anti-malware

If your talking real time protection then its really a case of the less is better to simply avoid conflict......even multiple layers of security doesnt = 100% bullet proof

Don't agree with that at all, try this simple light Registry Cleaner http://eusing.com/free_registry_...ry_cleaner.htm used it for years without any problems at all.
As far as Anti-malware try http://malwarebytes.org/
Get into the habit of using system restore and backing up and you'll be fine.

I'll agree with buttsie on the registry cleaners being more trouble than their worth.
While Broxi and other more technically savvy people might be experienced enough to use one,
most people are just going to screw their computer up.
I've yet to see an easy to use one that really just gets what you need out of it.
Most times I sit there and go "No, I don't want to get rid of that, or that..etc"

But Broxi is right about the Malwarebytes, I just love that program.
Every once in a while it just nabs that one lil' one my ZA security suite misses.

I used to use CCleaner for the registry.

I run CCleaner at least 2 times a week. This program is more than fantastic!
It deletes all the useless shits from my computer and I have never had any problem with.

Same for me, I never had to complain

No arguments from me about malwarebytes.....has often been the only one that has found and removed things my avast anti-virus has been unable to deal with...that includes the next best free software - super-antispyware



I think the registry issue goes further than that......when I used registry cleaners & tune-up utilities the level of improvement in performance was not even noticeable

They remind all to much of the software like memory boosters & increasing your surfing speed

This person who actually likes them does raise all the issues very nicely

Some may already have experienced the one mistake rule, and why Registry Cleaners are very unforgiving when You make a mistake, or get a bit lazy, or are too trusting.

There is no such thing as a safe Registry Cleaner, even in expert hands.
A BOLD STATEMENT.

I'm only concerned with the cleaning processes here, not the add-ons that most have these days.

They scan your Hard Drive for various data that they are programed to add to the deletion notification screen, or clean without intervention after you set the parameters, then they clean the files away like a white tornado.
A list of these files should pop-up and then it should ask you to confirm each file is not required. Be extra wary of those that don't. Herein lies the problem.

Most Top rated Registry Cleaners also have a back-up utility to restore any files that you may have accidently deleted, and should ask you if you wish to back-up the Registry before proceeding. Fine you say. I'm saved !! WRONG!!

Unless you do a full Back-up of your entire Hard Drive yourself, you run a definite risk that you may be staring at a blank screen for a long, long time.

Removing just one Core System file, regardless of this Cleaner's back-up, may make your system unbootable and unrecoverable. The obvious : - The Registry Cleaner's Back-Up is now useless.

I'm only concerned with supposed Highly Rated cleaners here. The Low Rated ones are as useful as teeth on a duck, and as safe as Nitro-Glycerine on a trampoline.

They have their uses, and used sparingly, and with quality programs and diligence, they may make your PC a tiny fraction better.

Every few months, back up your entire system regardless. This would be the ideal time to use a Registry Cleaner. If you're not prepared to back-up fully, don't clean.

You simply need to ask yourself if it is worth the risk before using them, and does my PC really need it.

Personally, I like them, but they really are just too darn dangerous.

You only need to make one mistake once.

I won't use reg cleaners anymore.
And I won't drive a car, won't cross the road as a pedestrian, won't ski, won't use anything needs electricity, won't use a ladder......

Why not?
Silly question! It is because you only need to make one mistake once....

I don't use electricity either.
My computer is powered by candles.
